School closures and trees down in Telford

It’s been a night of chaos in Telford as Storm Goretti gripped the town.

Drivers were abandoning cars, trees falling and power outages were commonplace last night and the effects are still being felt.

Telford College is closed today and many other schools are contacting parents to let them know about their plans.

People are reporting that buses are intermittent or non-existant and at least one lorry has jack-knifed on the M54 this morning.

Overnight, resident Scott Sharkey was one of many out in 4x4s helping drivers who were having trouble in the snow.

Trucks were getting stuck on the A442 and the M54 junction slip roads as gritting trucks fitted with snow ploughs went back out to try and keep the main routes moving.

Shoppers have been raiding the supermarkets, clearing the shelves of bread.

The worst of the storm has now passed, and we can look forward to rising temperatures as the weekend starts.
