Sowing the seeds of success at Hadley Learning Community

Green-fingered pupils from a Telford school have been sowing the seeds of success thanks to a generous funding donation.

Hadley Learning Community Secondary School received £1,000 from idverde’s Community Investment Fund, which is part of the company’s grounds and cleansing contract with Telford & Wrekin Council.

And they have put the donation to good use by creating a ‘Nurture to Bloom’ garden on the school site.

Operations manager Poppy Williams said: “We are so grateful to idverde and Telford & Wrekin Council for their generous support which has made a real difference to the scope of the project we have been able to create.

“The donation has given us the opportunity to develop a garden project that has involved both secondary students with additional needs and a small transition group of HLC primary students who will be coming to the school in September.

“We also welcomed volunteers from the previous year’s project who volunteered as mentors for the Year 6 students.”

And the garden has proved extremely successful with produce winning prizes at the Horsehay Flower Show – a third place for potatoes in the novice category for the second year in a row, and a third place in the six little shallots category.

Poppy said: “We’ve been delighted with the enthusiastic way the pupils have committed themselves to this project and it shows that creating an opportunity to try something new can be an exciting and engaging project for everyone involved.”

Hadley Learning Community is part of the Learning Community Trust, which runs more than a dozen school sites across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.
