National apprenticeship week highlights local career paths
Telford & Wrekin Council is marking National Apprenticeship Week by showcasing how local people can learn new skills for life. Running from 9 to 15 February, the week highlights opportunities across the borough for residents of all ages to earn while they learn.
The local authority’s Job Box service is leading the celebrations, pointing people toward various roles including business administration, teaching assistant positions, and property management. This year’s theme focuses on how these placements help build a talented workforce for the future.
Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Children, Young People, Education, Employment & Skills, said: “We’re proud to be supporting National Apprenticeship Week 2026 which recognises the skills for life which apprenticeships bring. Apprenticeships can make a huge difference to individuals, businesses and the wider economy and are often the stepping stone to a full-time career pathway.”
During the week, Job Box staff will be available to offer advice on current vacancies and training. They are also encouraging people to look ahead to the Telford Skills Show 2026, which takes place at the Telford International Centre on Thursday 19 March.
The event, which runs from 12 noon until 6pm, will feature local and national employers from various industries. Visitors can try hands-on activities and speak directly with training providers like Telford College and Harper Adams University.
“Apprenticeships are an excellent way to gain essential experience, earn while you learn and gain nationally recognised qualifications which really do provide ‘skills for life.’ For some, the apprenticeship route may not be an obvious choice but it’s the perfect way to gain new skills and start on an exciting career pathway,” Councillor Reynolds added.
Residents interested in attending the March event can sign up via the Telford Skills Show website.
