Turntable theft adds to woman’s criminal record.

A woman who targeted several stores across the county has been handed a community order by magistrates. Anna Stevenson, 39, appeared at Telford Magistrates’ Court on 26 January to be sentenced for five counts of shoplifting and failing to surrender to bail.

The court heard how the offences took place between September and October last year. During a trip to Shrewsbury on 9 September, Stevenson stole a turntable worth £99.99 from HMV and over £300 worth of clothes and underwear from H&M.

She then focused on stores in Wellington throughout the rest of the month. On three separate occasions, she took hair care products, razors, Lynx, and fake tan from Boots.

Stevenson, of Oakengates, also admitted to failing to surrender to custody earlier this month. The court noted she had been released on bail in November but failed to appear as required on 14 January.

Magistrates imposed a community order that will run until January 2027. This includes a 12-month mental health treatment programme and up to 20 days of rehabilitation activity.

Financial penalties were also issued, with compensation to the stores taking priority over court costs. Stevenson must pay back the full value of the items, including £305.81 to H&M and three separate payments to Boots totalling nearly £200.

She was also given a fine of £40 for the offences.
