Shoplifter ordered to pay for chocolate and laundry

A 53-year-old man has appeared before magistrates after stealing from two stores in Telford. Khalid Mahmood, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft from a shop when he appeared at Telford Magistrates’ Court last week.

The charges related to an incident on 7 December last year. The court heard how Mahmood targeted T G Jones, where he took chocolate worth £19.20.

He also visited B&M on the same day. During that visit, he stole a selection of laundry products and more chocolate with a combined value of £80.

Magistrates handed Mahmood a conditional discharge for 12 months. He was also ordered to pay back the full value of the items he took.

The compensation includes £19.20 to T G Jones and £80 to B&M. He must also pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.
