Telford Hornets youngsters trade rugby balls for litter pickers

Players from the Telford Hornets Under 14s Boys team spent their morning improving the local environment yesterday. The group took part in a sponsored litter pick across the Telford Town Park area.

The event was organised under the Street Champions scheme run by Telford & Wrekin Council. Despite it being a scheduled “no rugby” day, the teenagers headed out to clear pathways and wooded areas.

They collected a significant amount of rubbish, including recyclables and various discarded items. The effort was designed to raise vital funds for the team.

Money raised will go toward new training gear, protective equipment, and medical supplies. It will also help cover travel expenses, tournament fees, and winter pitch hire for the squad.

The session was supervised by Team Management members Ashleigh Fletcher and Steph Burd, alongside Head Coach Dave Jones.

What a haul!

“I definitely think they could do with the recognition,” said Ashleigh Fletcher. “It’s hard to get teenage boys to clean their room, let alone do their bit for the community.”
