Telford man fined for hammer attack threats made via messages

A Brookside man has appeared in court after sending a message threatening to attack someone with a hammer.

Liam Millington, 26, appeared at Telford Magistrates’ Court on 19 February 2026. He was charged under the Online Safety Act 2023 for sending a communication threatening death or serious harm.

The court heard that between 21 July and 26 July 2024, Millington sent a message that conveyed a threat of serious harm. The message specifically threatened to use a hammer to “smash the victim’s head in.”

Magistrates were told that Millington, of Bournside Drive, intended for the victim to fear the threat would be carried out, or was at least reckless as to whether they would feel that way.

The incident occurred while Millington was subject to a suspended sentence order.

Millington was ordered to pay a £40 fine. The court also imposed an additional fine because the offence breached his existing suspended sentence. He was further ordered to pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.
