Telford man jailed for assault and shoplifting
A 33-year-old man has been sent to prison following a series of incidents in the Madeley area of Telford. Chad Bailey appeared at Telford Magistrates’ Court on 28 January where he pleaded guilty to assault and two counts of shoplifting.
The court heard that Bailey, of Telford, assaulted a woman on 24 January. On the same day, he targeted the Premier Store in Madeley to steal a multi-pack of Redbull.
Two days later, Bailey stole three bottles of alcohol worth £90 from the Tesco store in the town. A further charge of common assault relating to an incident on 26 January was withdrawn by the court.
Magistrates described the offences as serious, noting Bailey had shown a flagrant disregard for people and their property. He was sentenced to a total of 18 weeks in prison.
The sentence includes 10 weeks for the assault and eight weeks for the theft from Tesco. An additional eight-week sentence for the theft from the Premier Store will run concurrently.
Bailey was also ordered to pay £75 in compensation for the assault and £90 to Tesco for the stolen alcohol. No order for costs was made to ensure the compensation payments were prioritised.
