Telford man sentenced for multiple shoplifting offences

A resident of Dallamoor in Hollinswood has been handed a suspended prison sentence after a series of thefts from local retailers.

Damien Knight, 30, appeared before Telford Magistrates’ Court last week to face sentencing for four separate incidents that took place across the town throughout January.

The court heard how Knight targeted stores in both the Town Centre and Telford Bridge Retail Park. His spree began on 25 January when he took £70 worth of cleaning products from B&M, followed by the theft of blinds and further cleaning supplies from The Range on 28 and 30 January.

On the same day as his final visit to The Range, Knight also stole meat valued at £30 from the Iceland store in the Town Centre. He entered a guilty plea to all charges brought against him.

Magistrates noted that the crimes were particularly serious as they occurred while Knight was already subject to two existing community orders. However, they opted for a three-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, stating that rehabilitation would be better served in the community.

Knight was ordered to pay back the full value of the stolen goods in compensation to the affected shops, totalling more than £150.
