World of opportunity awaits for Alfie
A Newport secondary school pupil has been selected to represent his local scout group at the World Scout Jamboree in Poland.
Alfie Hall, a Year 8 student at Burton Borough School, is set to attend the prestigious international event which brings together over 50,000 scouts from across the world.
The Jamboree, to be held next summer, gives young people the chance to share cultures, build friendships and embrace new challenges. Alfie is one of just 36 youngsters chosen from hundreds of applicants across Shropshire.
Alfie said: “I’ve been scouting for over six years and it’s something I’m really passionate about. I love new adventures and challenges, and I can’t wait to represent my group in Poland.
“Scouting is about friendship, adventure and always doing your best – I’m honoured to be part of this once-in-a-lifetime experience. It gives me the chance to experience the cultures and traditions of all of the scouts attending from all over the globe.”
Fundraising will be a vital part of Alfie’s journey and to attend the Jamboree he will need to raise just under £4,000.
“I’ve already been working hard in my local community by washing cars, gardening and helping with house maintenance to start my fundraising and I’ll be organising a range of events to boost my total still further throughout the year,” he said.
His parents, Sarah and Andi, said they were incredibly proud of what Alfie had achieved, from writing his entry statement and recording an interview video, and setting up his fundraising plan.
“We both hope he has the most amazing time, and can’t wait to hear all about it,” they said.
Burton Borough School principal Caroline Bedford said: “Alfie’s selection for the World Scout Jamboree is a remarkable achievement and reflects his dedication, resilience and positive attitude.
“Opportunities like this can be life-changing, and we are incredibly proud to see Alfie representing both Scouting and Burton Borough School on a global stage.”
She said Burton Borough School would like to thank Alfie’s family for sharing his story and said they would like to encourage the wider school community to support him in any way possible.
“Whether it’s through donations, offering small jobs during the school holidays or simply spreading the word, we can all help Alfie to reach his goal.
“This is a proud moment for our school, and we look forward to following Alfie’s journey as he prepares to take part in this extraordinary global adventure.”
