David Wilson Homes supports Telford homelessness charity with donation
A long-standing Telford charity has received a financial boost to help continue its mission of providing a safe haven and essential life skills for the borough’s most vulnerable residents.
Stay, which is located near the David Wilson Homes Hughes Meadow development, has spent over 30 years supporting homeless people in Telford and Wrekin. The charity provides more than just a roof; beneficiaries are taught vital skills such as cooking, budgeting, and IT literacy to help them transition into independent tenancies.
The donation, made through the Barratt Redrow Foundation’s Community Fund, will go directly toward the costs of providing person-centred support for tenants in supported accommodation.
Naomi Pay, CEO at Stay, explained that homelessness is often the result of complex, overlapping issues.
“Stay has helped, housed, and supported thousands of people at times when their problems became overwhelming and when they had nowhere else to turn,” she said. “We work with individuals who are rough sleeping, facing homelessness, have housing and financial difficulties, are vulnerable, suffering a life crisis, and living with a neurodiverse condition, mental health issues or an addiction.”
She added: “We believe that with the right support, at the right time, people can realise their aspirations to live independent and fulfilling lives.”
The housebuilder’s employees specifically chose Stay as a charity that matters to them. Helen Lewis, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Mercia, praised the “tireless and selfless” work of the charity’s volunteers.
“Homelessness is a serious issue that many people are facing throughout the country,” Lewis said. “We are committed to getting involved with local charities to ensure they can continue to provide essential services for local people.”
The announcement of the funding coincides with the launch of the charity’s flagship fundraising event. The Telford Sleep Out has been confirmed for Friday, 9 October 2026.
The event encourages local residents, businesses, and community groups to swap their beds for a cardboard box for one night to raise funds and change perceptions regarding rough sleeping in the borough.
