Dawley man jailed after breaching restraining order
A Telford man has been handed a custodial sentence after admitted to breaching a restraining order designed to protect a local woman.
Russell Greenwood, 35, of Johnston Road, Dawley, appeared before Telford Magistrates’ Court on 27 February 2026. He pleaded guilty to one count of harassment — breaching a restraining order on conviction.
The court heard that between 17 February and 26 February 2026, Greenwood contacted his victim, either directly or indirectly, without reasonable excuse. This contact was in direct violation of a restraining order imposed by Shrewsbury Crown Court on 12 November 2024.
Magistrates took Greenwood’s guilty plea into account but determined that the severity of the breach warranted immediate imprisonment. He was sentenced to 28 days in custody.
In addition to the prison sentence, Greenwood was ordered to pay a £154 surcharge. While the Crown Prosecution Service requested costs of £85, no order for costs was made due to the custodial sentence being imposed.
The court issued a collection order for the surcharge, with payment terms set for 27 March 2026, following his release.
