Telford man banned from driving after being caught twice with drugs in system
A Sutton Hill man has been ordered to carry out unpaid work and banned from the roads for 17 months after being caught drug driving on two separate occasions in December.
Lee King, 41, of Southgate, Sutton Hill, appeared before Telford Magistrates’ Court on 19 March 2026 to face four charges related to driving with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.
The court heard that King was first stopped on 12 December 2025 while driving a Peugeot on Southgate and Stirchley Lane. Blood tests later revealed he had more than 800 micrograms of Benzoylecgonine, a cocaine breakdown product, per litre of blood. The specified legal limit for the substance is 50 micrograms. He was also found to have not less than 2.1 micrograms of cocaine in his system, which also exceeded the limit.
Exactly two weeks later, on 26 December 2025, King was caught again behind the wheel of the same Peugeot 2008 on Wilkinson Close. On this occasion, tests showed he had not less than 797 micrograms of Benzoylecgonine and not less than 29 micrograms of cocaine in his blood.
King entered guilty pleas to all charges, which the magistrates took into account during sentencing. He was handed a community order to remain in effect until 18 March 2027. This includes a requirement to complete 80 hours of unpaid work within the next 12 months, a figure reduced from 120 hours due to his early admission of guilt.
In addition to the community order, King was hit with an obligatory 17-month driving disqualification and ordered to pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.
