Woman banned from the roads for three years after drug driving at Asda
An Albrighton woman has been handed a lengthy driving ban after being caught behind the wheel while under the influence of both cannabis and cocaine at a Telford supermarket.
Joanne Findlay, of Albrighton, appeared before Telford Magistrates’ Court on 4 March 2026 to face two charges of driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.
The court heard that on 5 September 2025, the 49-year-old was driving a blue Ford Kuga in the Asda car park on St Georges Road in Donnington.
Blood tests revealed that Findlay had 6.2ug/L of cannabis in her system, exceeding the legal limit. Further testing showed a proportion of cocaine in her blood at 90ug/L, which also exceeded the specified limit.
Findlay entered a guilty plea to the charges, which the magistrates took into account during sentencing.
For the offence involving cannabis, she was disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 36 months and ordered to pay a fine of £120. She was also ordered to pay £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.
No separate penalty was issued for the second charge relating to cocaine, though it carried an identical 36-month obligatory disqualification to run concurrently.
