LOOK WHO’S NEXT: Doctor Who Season 2 Episode 8: “The Reality War”
WARNING: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS MAJOR SPOILERS. Shhh Spoilers, sweeties.
“The Reality War” is the season finale to Doctor Who Season 2 and the second part to last week’s episode, “Wish World.”
In this finale, the Doctor teams up with Belinda (Varada Sethu), Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson), and Melody Bush (Bonnie Langford) to stop both Rani (played by Anita Dobson) and Archie Panjabi from summoning Omega, the first Time Lord.
First, let me get my criticisms out of the way, which aren’t many. I do feel the villain Omega was defeated a bit too easily, and I feel that the Rani’s defeat was a bit gruesome, being eaten alive by Omega. The ending did drag on a bit, in my opinion.
Now for the good.
WHAT… A… FINALE!!!!!!!!!!! This was hands down the best season finale since Series 4’s “The Stolen Earth” and “Journey’s End,” in my opinion. WOW WOW WOW. The action was intense and kept me on the edge of my seat. The acting from both Ncuti and Millie was at their best, and the cameo from a live Dalek! YES YES YESSSSSSSS!!!!!!
My favourite villains in Doctor Who are the Daleks, so I have been yearning for them to return, and I am so glad they did.
Now let’s talk about that ending, which I am sure a lot of people are.
WARNING: THIS IS WHERE THE SPOILERS COME IN
Seeing Jodie Whittaker come back was a tearjerker for me (quite frankly, Jodie Whittaker is one of my favourite Doctors), so I was so pleased to see her back.
And speaking of returns: Goodbye Ncuti, who has now officially left the role of the Doctor and regenerated into, wait for it… BILLIE PIPER!!!!!
WHAT! This episode was one to remember.
Whilst I can’t say all of these recent episodes were great, I can honestly say, Russell, with “The Reality War,” you did absolutely fantastic.
Billie Piper, I cannot wait to see you as the Doctor.
So needless to say, “The Reality War” is one of, if not Ncuti’s, best episodes of Doctor Who and one of the best season finales in years.
A big 8/10 for me.
