£5000 boost for charities after football tournament
Two Telford football coaches launched a Champions League-style football tournament named the Telford Summer Series.
The Telford Summer Series was founded by local grassroots coaches Alan Thornton (NC United) and David Boynton (Lawley Lightmoor FC) to give young players a chance to continue football beyond the regular season.
The tournament has raised money for two important charities (The Harry Johnson Trust and Papyrus).
On Sunday, the final games at NC United Football Club were played and two cheques totaling over £5,000 were presented to parents directly affected by circumstances supported by the two chosen charities (child leukemia and child suicide).
Coaches Dave Boynton and Alan Thornton said “This year’s tournament brought together 53 U8 & U9 teams, uniting our community through football and fundraising.”
