Woodlands Primary School Honoured for Outstanding Trauma-Informed Practice

Woodlands Primary School in Telford has received a prestigious regional accolade, recognizing its exceptional work in trauma-informed practice and its profound commitment to wellbeing and inclusion. This significant award celebrates the school’s transformative journey over the past few years, which has seen it develop into a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where every child feels seen, supported, and empowered to thrive.

The school’s dedication to understanding and responding to the impact of trauma, attachment, and mental health has led to real and lasting change, not only in student behaviour and learning but also in the lives of its children and their families.

The Attachment and Trauma Research Community (ARC) judging panel selected Woodlands Primary School as the regional winner for the Midlands area. Schools are chosen based on the most significant development in their attachment and trauma-aware practice, assessed across three key areas: ambition, scope, and impact. This regional win also means Woodlands Primary has been shortlisted for the National award, with the winners set to be announced at the National Conference in November 2025.

The award acknowledges the dedication of the entire staff team, from their nurturing provisions and mental health support teams to their restorative behavior approaches and strong partnerships with families and external agencies.

Woodlands Primary School is now proudly recognized as an ARC ‘Learning Hub,’ indicating its role in supporting other schools across the region to develop similar approaches. As Mrs. Duncombe and the Woodlands Team stated, “The school would like to thank all stakeholders for their continued support; together, we are making a difference.” This recognition is a celebration not just for the school itself, but for every child, parent, and staff member who has been part of this remarkable journey.
