Prolific shoplifters sentenced
Two prolific shoplifters who plagued businesses across Telford and Shropshire have been put behind bars after pleading guilty to numerous theft offences. Their latest crimes occurred on 19th June 2025.
Michael Lever, 42, of no fixed address, and Gareth Jones, 39, of Blakemore, Brookside, Telford, were both remanded in custody before appearing at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 21st June. They both admitted to all charges. Lever was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison, while Jones received a longer sentence of 28 weeks.
During a previous sentencing in 2024 where the pair were given 28 months, they were told by the Judge that Prison does not deter them, and that rehabilitation has had no effect on their offending.
Sergeant Rich Jones, from Telford Town Centre Team, praised the joint efforts that led to the convictions. “Thanks to officers and the business community, two prolific offenders have been put behind bars,” he stated.
