Wellington Walking Festival announce 2025 routes
The 14th annual Wellington Walking Festival, a highlight for outdoor enthusiasts in Telford and beyond, has unveiled its exciting programme for this year, running from Monday, September 8, until Sunday, September 14. The festival promises a diverse range of walks, with several new routes making their debut.
Jean Escott of Wellington Walkers are Welcome, the organisers behind the popular event, confirmed: “Our 2025 event features 34 walks ranging from gentle strolls to a strenuous 13.5-mile walk, with something to suit everyone.” She added that the festival aims to both promote local walking interests and encourage visitors from across the region to experience Wellington.
Among the fresh additions to the programme are ‘Wellington Benchmarks’, the Telford Coronation Walk, and a unique fungus foray on the Ercall. These new routes will complement many “tried and trusted” favourites, all designed to showcase the town’s rich cultural heritage and delightful green spaces. Last year’s festival saw 258 participants cover an impressive 2,372 miles, with organisers hoping for even greater popularity this year.
Sally Themans of Love Wellington highlighted the festival’s broad appeal, noting, “The walking festival has a large draw, often attracting people from far afield.” She also pointed out that Wellington’s recent membership with Visit Shropshire means the town is actively marketed as a walking destination, easily accessible by train. “The festival is a great chance to show off our town and the beautiful surrounding countryside,” Ms Themans concluded.
Booking for all walks is essential, and the full programme is readily available at various locations throughout Wellington, including the library, Morrisons, and the Orbit.
