Telford celebrates with the Lionesses

A modest crowd gathered to watch the Euro finals at the QEII Arena in Telford Town Park yesterday afternoon.

Telford & Wrekin Council laid on an even bigger screen than the one at the semi finals earlier in the week, so residents could gather to see the womens national team beat the Spanish side at the St. Jakob-Park sadium in Basel, Switzerland.

The weather held for the game, which went into extra time after England replied to Spain’s lead. After the 90 minutes failed to find a winner, extra time was also all square.

The penalty shootout that followed was off to a shaky start for the Lionesses, but a great save from the England keeper Hampton pulled it back.

The penalty from Chloe Kelly sealed the victory.

The look of despair was written all over the Spanish faces as the Lionesses retain the cup and good times never felt so good.
