Football match and fun day planned
Wrekin Juniors Under-10s Lions are proud to announce their latest exciting fundraising event, a Fun Day and Sponsored Football Match, set to take place on 24th August at Admaston Playing Fields.
This day of family-friendly activities will bring together parents and guardians and other keen supporters from the local community to raise money for both Wrekin Juniors Under-10s Lions Football Club and a local family support charity called Home-Start Telford & Wrekin, which provides vital support for families and young people in need.
The highlight of the event will be a sponsored football match, where players from Wrekin Juniors Under-10s Lions will take to the field to play an opposition made up of their coaches and parents to entertain and raise much-needed funds. The proceeds from the match will support the team in the season ahead with equipment and other costs with a proportion also going to Home-Start Telford & Wrekin, supporting both the development of youth football and the charity’s work in the community.
“We are thrilled to be part of this community event, bringing together families, football and fundraising to support both Wrekin Juniors Under-10s Lions and the vital work we do at Home-Start Telford & Wrekin. It’s inspiring to see young people and their families championing causes that make a real difference locally. Events like this show the power of sport and community spirit in creating brighter futures for children and young people,” said Sharon Uppal, Corporate and Community Development Lead for Home-Start Telford & Wrekin.
But the fundraising doesn’t stop there! Attendees are encouraged to donate toiletries, books and toys to support the young people and families supported by Home-Start Telford & Wrekin. These items will go a long way in providing much-needed essentials and bringing joy to children and families in our area.
The team will deliver these items to Home-Start Telford and Wrekin’s office based in Meeting Point House following the fun day activities to personally hand the items to the charity’s team of local volunteers and staff.
Wrekin Juniors Under-10s Lions, Mike Corbett, shares his excitement for the event: “We are thrilled to host this fun-filled day that will not only bring our club but also make a positive impact in the wider community, in particular on the lives of young people and their families who need our support. With the generous support of our community, we hope to raise much-needed funds and essential goods for Home-Start Telford & Wrekin, while celebrating the spirit of youth football. This event is a fantastic way to show support for both our club and a wonderful local charity.”
In addition to the fun activities, the event will mark the official announcement of Wrekin Juniors Under-10s Lions’ new club sponsor, VeloxServ, a local business that has generously committed to supporting the club’s continued growth. The sponsorship will provide crucial resources for the development of the team and help facilitate future events like this.
The Lions have already raised over £1,000 for their club and local good causes including the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity and the children’s ward at the Princess Royal Hospital, in Telford, in the last two years – through a range of fundraising including sponsored litter picks and other activities in the local community.
