MP steps in to get car park charges refunded
Shaun Davies MP has stepped in to help residents facing unfair fines from a private car park operator in Ironbridge.
The MP intervened after an ANPR camera issued charges to residents who had not even entered the car park, but were instead parked on a nearby road.
The intervention led to affected residents receiving a full refund. The private parking company has since made changes to prevent the issue from happening again.
This action comes as the Government launches a consultation on a new Code of Practice for private car parks, which aims to cap charges and improve the appeals process.
Speaking about the issue, Mr Davies said, “Drivers are sick of cowboy operators slapping unfair and costly charges on vehicles.
“We had residents who didn’t even enter the car park, that were charged by a private operator and were only refunded when I intervened.”
The new government plans would see operators who break the rules lose the ability to issue parking charges, a move welcomed by the MP.
