Telford firefighter passes away

​A firefighter based at Telford Central station has died while off duty. Chris Short passed away on Sunday, 17 August.

​The tragic news was confirmed by Simon Hardiman, the Chief Fire Officer for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service. In a statement, Mr Hardiman expressed deep sadness on behalf of the service.

​He said: “Our sincerest condolences and thoughts are with Chris’s loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. We kindly ask that their privacy is respected as they grieve.”

​The Chief Fire Officer described the loss as “profoundly devastating” for everyone at the service, particularly for Mr Short’s colleagues on his watch. As a tribute, the service will fly its flag at half-mast.

A statement from Wellington Fire Station said staff were “absolutely devastated”.

They said he was a “fantastic firefighter who would do anything for anyone” and that he would be “deeply missed by everyone.” They added their deepest condolences go to his family and friends.
