Hadley convenience store celebrates 35 years

A Hadley convenience store, which has been a community hub for decades, has celebrated a complete refurbishment and 35 years of service. Julie Kaur of Jules Convenience marked the occasion at a grand opening event with family, friends, and customers.

The store’s history dates back to the 1980s when it was opened by Julie’s husband, Joey’s parents, Harbajan and Silender Duhra. Joey has been involved for 42 years, while Julie herself has now completed 35 years of service.

The grand opening was attended by around 100 people, including David Sidaway, Chief Executive of Telford & Wrekin Council, and Mrs Anna Turner, Lord-Lieutenant of Shropshire, who is the King’s personal representative in the county.

Julie spoke at the event, thanking everyone who has supported the business. She said the refurbishment will help them compete more effectively and continue serving their loyal customers for many more years.

A raffle was held to raise funds for Age UK Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin’s 75th Anniversary Appeal. The store has a long history of charitable fundraising, with tens of thousands of pounds raised over the years for various causes, including Macmillan Cancer Support, Hope House Children’s Hospice, and Severn Hospice.

The business and its owner are no strangers to accolades, with Julie being a finalist in several upcoming 2025 awards, including the Community Inspiration Awards and the Best Businesswomen Awards. She was also named Retailers’ Retailer of the Year at the Convenience Store Awards earlier this year.
