Wellington flower club still blooming

A Wellington club is celebrating a special milestone this year, having brought colour and creativity to the local community for 65 years. The Wrekin Flower Club, founded in the late 1950s by keen gardener and arranger Mrs Decima Lanyon, continues to thrive with over 70 members.

President Linda Hood said it was a big achievement for the club to still be flourishing after so long. “We are still going strong with over 70 members and welcome anyone who loves flowers and loves creativity,” she said. “It is quite an achievement for us to still be flourishing after all this time and to have so many members as many similar clubs have folded.”

The club meets on the third Wednesday of each month, except for August, at Belmont Hall in Wellington. Members can watch demonstrations by floral experts and enjoy a shared passion for flowers. Linda Hood added that members also support good causes, from collecting for Ukraine to giving Christmas gifts to local care homes.

The next meeting is on October 15, at 2pm, and will feature a demonstration by Debbie Wellington. For more details, you can contact Linda Hood on 01952 252243.
