Telford College restaurant is reopening to the public

Telford College’s on-site restaurant is opening its doors for the public from next week for a series of two and three-course lunches.

Starting on October 7, diners can book in for lunch at The Orange Tree on Tuesdays and Thursdays most weeks up to Christmas, with additional Wednesday openings during the festive period.

The Orange Tree, which has a five-star food hygiene rating from the local authority, is based at the college’s Wellington campus, and has two professional kitchens, with covers for up to 50 diners.

It allows students to put their catering skills to the test in a realistic working environment, similar to a large restaurant or hotel.

The first three-course lunch menus have been designed by level 2 and 3 professional cookery students with support from the chef lecturers. Two course options are £14 and three courses are £16, with drinks available from the restaurant bar at additional cost.

The menus for Tuesdays between October 7-21 feature options such as smoked salmon roulade, chicken ballotine, baked Alaska with crème anglaise and more.

The Thursday menu from October 9 to November 13, and features options such as minestrone soup, braised steak, Chantilly profiteroles and more.

All meals are prepared by the students under supervision and with support of the professional chef lecturers, and menus feature vegetarian options. Dietary requirements can be accommodated on request.

Telford College’s on-site restaurant, The Orange Tree, is reopening to the public next week to serve two and three-course lunches.

Andy Turner, Telford College’s director of vocational studies said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming diners back to the Orange Tree restaurant for this academic year.

“The students leading these first lunch services are in their second or third year with us, and they did a fantastic job in the kitchens last year as we re-opened the restaurant to the public.

“It is such an exciting and vibrant department in the college. Through the restaurant services our students are showcasing the food they produce, receiving amazing feedback from diners, and developing the professional skills required for a successful career in the hospitality and catering sector.”
