Lib Dems will field three candidates in Telford by-elections
Voters across Telford will have a wider choice in the upcoming parish and town council by-elections after the Liberal Democrats confirmed they are contesting all three seats. This move follows a number of recent elections where the party has had no representation, sparking local debate about limited voter options.
A spokesperson for the local party said they had “taken it to heart” after previous coverage by Telford Live highlighted the scarcity of candidates. They added that it is “absolutely the true that residents deserve a choice!
“Parish councils are increasingly important as the borough council transfers services to them to cut borough costs.”
The Liberal Democrats have fielded three candidates across the town’s parish areas.
Kerry Weston is standing in the Haygate ward of Wellington. Archie Barnett will contest the St George’s West ward in St George’s and Priorslee. Patrick Doody is the candidate for the Oakengates and Wombridge ward in Oakengates.
The party stated that while they cannot “guarantee” fielding candidates in every contest, they are “certainly going to try” to offer more representation.
Electors will be going to the polls on Thursday, November 20, 2025, the full list of candidates has not been announced yet.
