The incredible business tucked away in Halesfield

Tucked away in Halesfield, Taylor Support provides specialist support for children, young people and adults with a disability in Telford and the surrounding area. We took a trip to talk to owners Holly and Mark Taylor about their passion and journey from working for the council where they ran play schemes for children with special needs to creating an open-ended and safe environment for all.

Holly and Mark’s journey began back in the early 2000s where they met while working for the local authority. However, the change in their positions and roles encouraged them to create their successful business ‘Taylor Support’. With ample experience and knowledge, the company went from an idea to a second home for those with additional needs.

‘It’s strange because some of the service users with us now, we looked after when they were 7 years old and now they’re in their 30s!’ proving that this work is one that is extremely rewarding yet still provides its challenges.

Once a very small service, Taylor Support has boomed massively in the last 7 years. Starting off with just community support and providing transport for their service users, Mark and Holly now provide life skills, overnight stays in exciting places and a full fun packed weekend away to give the parents the respite they need once in a while.

The 63 members of staff are dedicated to working closely with service users and their families in order to provide highly personalised, flexible and safe, outcome-based support. Both Holly and Mark provide a hands-on experience for all service users where they are given the opportunities to learn new skills, interact with others, develop their social abilities and confidence.

Taking ideas and feedback from the service users, Taylor Support adapts in order to suit the needs and wants of those who attend the support groups. Behind closed doors all staff members make the magic happen allowing for fun activities such as cooking and shopping to day trips out to Drayton Manor and the Ice-cream farm.

Mark and Holly were very open about the fact that this has been a tough process and never imagined they would have progressed this far with their company. However, building trust and connections with families from the beginning really helped them navigate the new world they found themselves in.

On top of the amazing support and care each staff member provides, Taylor Support is proud of the extensive, specialist and robust training plan they present to all staff members. ‘No disability is off limits for us’ stated Holly where it is clear that this is more than just a job to them. It is their passion and their life.

Over recent years, Telford has seen an increase in its numbers of young people with additional needs. Both Holly and Mark open their doors for anyone with any disability, this provides a secure and reliable place that Telford is lucky to have.
