Popular pub opens again after revamp
The Wrekin Giant pub has welcomed customers back after a refurbishment that cost a six-figure sum. Located in Southwater Square, the Hungry Horse pub has new furniture, lighting, and décor.
The pub, which is part of Greene King, now features an upgraded bar and a more open-plan restaurant area. This creates a venue suitable for enjoying a drink, having a midweek meal, or marking special occasions. Customers can also make use of a new self-serve coffee machine.
Outside, the venue’s appearance has been improved with new signage, outdoor seating, and festoon lighting. This aims to improve the experience for guests eating alfresco all year.
The new food and drinks menus include signature dishes such as the Classic Chicken New Yorker and The Tingly Tedster Burger. There is also a range of seasonal desserts like a Baileys Caramel Profiterole Sharer.
The Wrekin Giant is open from 8am every day, offering a breakfast menu that features items from a Big Brekkie Roll to a Frozen Smoothie Bowl.
To celebrate the reopening, the pub invited the mental health group Primal Instincts to cut the ribbon. The group, founded in 2023, gives men safe spaces to discuss their mental health. The pub also made a donation to the group to support its community efforts.
Chelsea Delaney, general manager at The Wrekin Giant, said: “We are situated in the centre of Telford’s busy retail district, so the pub is a brilliant base for friends and families to come together. We pride ourselves on being a pub for everyone, and we’re thrilled to unveil a new and improved offering following our renovation. With the festive season now fully underway, we can’t wait to welcome guests of all ages back to celebrate with us – come in and see us today!”
The pub has planned a number of festive activities. These include ‘Breakfast with Santa’ mornings for children throughout December, and a special ‘Dine with Santa’ event on 23 December.
