Telford Day celebrations tomorrow
A special celebration is taking place tomorrow as the town marks its first Telford Day, with activities revolving around the new Christmas Yurt. The festivities begin on Saturday, November 29, in Southwater and run for over a week.
Tomorrow is the official Telford Day, marking the date in 1968 when the new town was established. Residents are invited to join the celebration, which includes the opening of the Made in Telford Christmas Makers Market, open daily from 10am until 8pm.
The main focus of the inaugural Telford Day will be the flag raising at 1.30pm in Southwater Square. Before that, a free drop-in screening of Cinderella with colouring activities starts at 10.30am.
Later in the afternoon, between 2pm and 4pm, people can take part in creative workshops to colour their own Telford Day flag.
As the evening draws in, attention turns to the Lantern Parade, which begins at 5.30pm. The parade will set off from the Visitor Centre in Telford Town Park and make its way around the lake before arriving in Southwater Square.
Performances will include the Music Bike and the Are You Dancing show, along with an Illuminated Bike Ride. The newly designed Telford Flag will be seen on parade for the first time.
After the parade, the lanterns will be floated onto the lake for a spectacular display. The day concludes with free live music from saxophonist Rick Cosco between 7pm and 9.30pm inside the Christmas Yurt.
The Yurt and Makers Market, featuring local crafts, artisan foods, and gifts, will be open daily until Sunday, December 7. Visitors can also find film screenings, festive workshops, live music, and a bar throughout the nine days.
