Hospital seeks volunteer buggy drivers
A hospital Trust is calling on caring, community-minded individuals to join its team of volunteer buggy drivers, to help patients and visitors with mobility issues travel comfortably and safely around the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
The volunteer-run buggy service plays a vital role in improving accessibility for those who may find the hospital’s long corridors or distances challenging.
Volunteers at The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) provide a friendly face and a reassuring presence, offering lifts between the main entrance and clinics.
Julia Clarke, Director of Public Participation, said: “We are incredibly proud of our volunteers and the difference they make every single day. Our buggy drivers help patients begin their visit with confidence, comfort and a smile. We’d love to welcome more people into this very fun and rewarding role.”
Volunteer shifts are flexible and opportunities are available throughout the week. The role is especially suited to those who enjoy meeting new people, supporting the local community, and contributing to a warm, welcoming hospital environment.
Paula Gardner, Interim Chief Nursing Officer, added: “Volunteers are an essential part of our hospital family. Their kindness and commitment make a real difference to patient experience. This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone who wants to give back and help create a supportive environment for everyone who comes through our doors.”
The SaTH Volunteer Team will provide full training and ongoing support. This is a chance to meet new people, stay active and learn new skills.
