Telford braces itself for a huge dump
If the weather forecasts are to be believed, Telford could be in for a monumental dump of snow overnight, with up to 15cm of the white stuff landing on our town all thanks to Storm Goretti.
According to the Met Office, heavy snow ” is likely to lead to disruption and dangerous travelling conditions Thursday night into Friday.”
Many schools have already issued warnings about potential closures. Dothill Primary have said they are ‘hopeful’ that the school will open on Friday, but the safety of pupils and staff is the priority.
Lawley and Overdale Parish Council have cancelled Fridays youth club and the Tea, Toast and Talk Session.
National Highways who are responsible for gritting the M54 have also issued a warning.
Severe Weather Resilience Adviser at National Highways Darren Clark said: “National Highways’ winter operation has been in full swing for several months and continues as we prepare for Storm Goretti, described as a ‘multi-hazard’ weather event by the Met Office.
“Our teams work alongside Met Office meteorologists so that we can get our 530 gritters out to where they are needed most.
“Drivers can also take some simple steps to avoid any delays or breakdowns including preparing their vehicle by topping up on fuel and screen wash and checking tyres, as well as keeping your distance and avoiding sudden braking.”
While gritting reduces the risk, drivers still need to take care and drive to the conditions of the roads.
National Rail have advised that passengers check before they travel as they expect some disruption may occur.
Incidentally, Storm Goretti was named by the French equivalent of the Met Office.
