Rugby star Nia competes with the very best
A Shropshire student is celebrating rugby success after being selected to play alongside the best players in the region.
Nia Williams, a Year 11 pupil at Burton Borough School, in Newport, has been selected for the North Midlands Rugby Football Union squad.
Headteacher Caroline Bedford said: “Nia’s skill, commitment and passion for rugby are truly impressive.
“She will be a member of a squad made up of the very best players from 12 regional clubs and it really is an outstanding achievement.
“We are so proud of her for representing the north Midlands and for making the most of her opportunity to showcase her talent on such an impressive stage.”
Nia said: “It’s a real honour to have been selected to play at this elite level and I’m determined to do my very best to represent Burton Borough School to the best of my ability and to compete successfully against players from right across the region.
“Rugby is my absolute passion and this selection is a dream come true – I can’t wait to meet the other regional representatives and to start training with the coaching staff to lift my performance to an even higher level.”
The North Midlands RFU is a constituent body of the Rugby Football Union and it covers the counties of Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, and Greater Birmingham.
The new Midlands region overall comprises players across the north Midlands, Warwickshire, east Midlands, Leicestershire, Staffordshire, and Nottingham, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire and eastern counties.
