Why are people hanging around in this bus shelter?
Waiting for a bus at the Humbers is a bit different these days. The local shelter has been turned into a library where people can pick up a new book while they wait.
Lilleshall Parish Council set up the library in 2021, and it was opened by the High Sheriff of Shropshire. The mural was painted by Rick Shaw Designs and a local carpenter made the shelves.
It is not just a few books left in a corner. The library has shelves filled with everything from children’s stories to novels and even a guide on how to use Excel.
Despite the rules posted by the Parish Council asking for book donations only, there was a DVD of the film Unbroken that found its way onto the shelves. I don’t think anyone was reported for this.

Chris and Erica Trench from Muxton visit the spot every few weeks. They help keep the shelves tidy and swap their own books for new ones. They retain their Buckinghamshire accent despite having moved here over 20 years ago to be nearer their family.
”You get allsorts in here, DVDs, children’s toys. We come every few weeks to bring back the books we have read and pick up new ones.” Erica said enthusiastically. They are among the many locals who use the facility.
Oh, if you are waiting in there for a bus, pick a long book, because they no longer stop here. You’ll have to walk up to McDonalds to hop on.
