£13,000 recovered in drugs swoop

A man has today (Thursday 29 January) been arrested on suspicion of drug dealing in Wellington following a proactive stop by officers in the new drugs team.

Officers from the Proactive North Serious Organised Crime (SOC) and drugs team were in the Telford area targeting suspected class A drug dealing activity.

They observed the occupant of a red VW Polo on the High Street in Wellington acting suspiciously. The car was driven off at speed before being followed to an address on Maddocks Court, Wellington.

The driver and sole occupant was detained in his vehicle having discarded a quantity of class A drugs as well as a burner style phone nearby. Following a search of an address, £13,000 cash was recovered.

They arrested a 22 year old man on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class A drug. He is currently in custody helping police with enquiries.

Detective Sergeant Steve Miller said: “Today, officers from the drugs team targeted suspected Class A drug dealers operating in the Telford area.

“We located and arrested a man in possession of crack cocaine, heroin, and approximately £13,000 in cash at an address in the town.

“The harm caused by illegal drugs is well known, and we remain committed to disrupting and pursuing those involved in their supply to help keep Telford safe.”
