Multi-vehicle crash and fire closes A5 westbound
Emergency services were called to a significant incident on the A5 westbound this morning following a multi-vehicle collision. Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service received reports of the crash at 08:25 on the Shrewsbury stretch of the dual carriageway.
Four fire appliances were sent to the scene from Shrewsbury, Wellington, and Telford Central. This included a specialist rescue tender and an operations officer.
The incident involved more than three vehicles, with one van found to be well alight. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.
West Midlands Ambulance Service and West Mercia Police were also in attendance. The fire was successfully brought under control with a stop message sent at 08:51.
