Telford serial shoplifter sentenced for Christmas spree
A persistent shoplifter from Stirchley who targeted local stores for alcohol and treats appeared before magistrates in Telford on 6th Feb.
Kaleb Potter, of Chatford, pleaded guilty to twelve counts of theft following a series of raids across the town during the festive period.
The 27-year-old focused his attention on the Co-op and Shell garages, stealing goods worth more than £1,100 in total.
The court heard how Potter stole £200 worth of chocolates from the Co-op on 23 December, just days after taking £87.50 worth of mince pies from the same shop.
His December spree also included the theft of laundry products, cleaning items, and multiple hauls of alcohol and confectionery.
On one single day, 8 December, Potter targeted stores three times, making off with alcohol, sweets, and household goods.
Magistrates were told that the defendant is a persistent offender who has previously been fined for his actions.
The bench decided it was in the interests of justice to impose a community order instead of further fines this time.
Potter must now complete a six-month non-residential drug rehabilitation requirement where he will be required to provide samples.
He was also ordered to participate in up to 20 days of rehabilitation activities as directed by his supervising officer.
No compensation was awarded to the shops involved due to the limited means of the defendant.
