Shropshire Warriors stars selected for West Midlands basketball squad
Two young players from the Shropshire Warriors have been called up to represent the West Midlands. Brandon and Huwie have secured spots in the prestigious Basketball England Talent Pathway.
The Aspire Programme is the starting point for national development. It targets players aged 8 to 15. These boys were chosen from a pool of around 20,000 players across the country.
After nine intense camp days, the programme moves to the Inter-Regional Tournament. This year, the West Midlands is taking two teams of 12 players instead of the usual one. This means 24 players have been selected to compete. They will face the East Midlands, South West, and Wales.
Brandon will compete in the U15 category. Huwie will play for the U13 side. The tournament takes place in Bristol.
The Shropshire Warriors expressed their pride in the pair. A spokesperson for the club said: “We wish Brandon and Huwie the best of luck at the Tournament in Bristol and representing Shropshire warriors on this big platform. Well done!!!”
The journey continues after this event. Scouts will be looking for the best talent to form the Central Region team. Only 24 players out of 72 will make the cut for the All-Star Tournament in July.
Super-Region Camps begin again in May. At that stage, the squad will be reduced to the final 12.
