Comfort Café launches in Telford to support those affected by cancer
A new monthly café is launching in Telford to provide support for people impacted by cancer. The Comfort Café will be held at The Hummingbird Café inside Meeting Point House.
The first session starts on Monday, 23rd March. It will then run on the last Monday of every month from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm. No booking is required for those wishing to attend.
The initiative offers a relaxed space for patients, survivors, and carers. Wayne Jenson, Chief Executive of Meeting Point House, said: “Comfort Café is a welcoming space for anyone currently going through cancer treatment, those who have lived through cancer, and anyone supporting a loved one with cancer. With a relaxed and friendly environment, this is a place where people can come together over a hot drink, share experiences, and find comfort in conversation with a like-minded community.”
Staff have prepared for the launch by completing specialist training. Wayne and Front of House Manager Sascha Jenkyn both finished the Cancer Champions programme delivered by Lingen Davies Cancer Support.
Naomi Atkin, CEO of Lingen Davies, said: “A very big thank you to Wayne and his team for taking part in the Cancer Champions training programme. Initiatives like the Comfort Café are key to raising awareness and will provide an important space for those impacted by cancer to seek support and conversation.”
The project is also supported by Breast Cancer Now. The charity already runs courses at the venue for those who have finished treatment.
For the organisers, the project is personal. Sascha Jenkyn was treated for breast cancer in 2025. She said: “The experience was frightening and surreal, and although I had wonderful support, I know how important it is to speak to people who truly understand. If sharing my experience helps even one person feel less alone, then that means everything. I want to give something back.”
Wayne Jenson also lost his mother to lung cancer a year ago. He hopes the café will provide the warmth and connection that families need during difficult times.
