Uninsured drug-driver caught behind the wheel in Telford

A 25-year-old man has been banned from the roads for a year after being caught driving under the influence of drugs in Telford.

Abdur Rahman Ghazi, of no fixed abode, appeared before Telford Magistrates Court on 20 February.

The court heard that on 5 November 2025, Ghazi was driving a Renault Clio on New Road, north of Wrockwardine Wood Way.

A blood test revealed he had 6.9 micrograms of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) per litre of blood. The legal limit is 2 micrograms.

Ghazi was also found to be driving the vehicle without third party insurance.

He pleaded guilty to both offences. Magistrates took his guilty plea into account during sentencing.

Ghazi was disqualified from driving for 12 months. He was also ordered to pay a £120 fine, £85 in costs, and a £48 victim surcharge.

His driving record was endorsed for the insurance offence, but no separate penalty was given.
