Sutton Hill man banned from driving after being caught over twice the limit

A Telford man has been handed a 19-month driving ban after appearing at Telford Magistrates’ Court this week.

Bogdan Boiciuc, 29, of Stonedale, Sutton Hill, appeared before magistrates on Tuesday, 3 March, to face a charge of driving a motor vehicle while his alcohol level was above the legal limit.

The court heard that on 8 June 2025, Boiciuc was stopped while driving a BMW X5 on Bridgnorth Road in Telford. A subsequent breath test revealed he had 75 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath—more than double the legal driving limit of 35 microgrammes.

Boiciuc pleaded guilty to the offence, and the court noted that his plea was taken into account during sentencing. Along with the 19-month disqualification, he was ordered to pay a fine of £162.00.

Additional costs were also imposed:

  • Costs to Crown Prosecution Service: £300.00
  • Victim Surcharge: £65.00

A collection order was made, with the total amount to be paid in full by 31 March 2026.

Magistrates offered Boiciuc a chance to reduce his ban through a drink-drive rehabilitation course. If he successfully completes the course by 22 March 2027, his disqualification will be reduced by 19 weeks.
