Telford dance instructor crowned best in the UK as community classes soar
A Telford-based fitness instructor is celebrating after her dance programme was officially named the Best Bhangra Fitness class in the UK.
Jee, who moved to Telford from Leeds 20 years ago, launched her first Bhangra Fitness session in 2019. The timing was a personal milestone; with her youngest child starting full-time school, she decided to pursue a long-held dream of sharing her vibrant Punjabi culture with her adopted home town.
The award-winning Bhangra Fitness class is described as an energetic, full-body workout that fuses traditional Bhangra music and steps with modern exercise. Designed to be inclusive of all ages and abilities, the classes aim to improve health and wellbeing through high-energy movement.
Reflecting on the national recognition, Jee said: “Winning Best Bhangra Fitness in the UK was an amazing experience and I am extremely honoured and grateful to be holding the title.”

Beyond the core Bhangra sessions, the community has expanded significantly. Three years ago, Jee introduced Feel Good Dance & Social, a class focused on boosting confidence and building friendships. The group has grown into a tight-knit community that organises trips, fundraisers, and a massive annual Christmas party, which saw 65 members attend in late 2025.
Most recently, Jee launched Seated Exercise and Social to support those with limited mobility. “I love every minute of it, and am blessed to be in a position to actively make a difference to people’s mobility,” she explained.
For Jee, the success of the classes isn’t just about the fitness—it’s about the people. “The best part about running dance and fitness classes is the wonderful people I get to spend time with every day. I appreciate every single one of my teamies and have learnt so much from their inspiring lives.”
