Family-friendly activities planned at college Community Day

Telford College is opening its Wellington campus to the public this summer for a brand-new Community Day, offering a lively programme of hands-on activities, demonstrations and family-friendly experiences.

The free event will take place on Saturday 6 June, from 10am to 2pm, at the college’s Haybridge Road site.

The day is designed to celebrate the local community and strengthen partnerships across the area, while showcasing the college’s facilities, curriculum teams, student talent and the wide range of organisations it works with.

Principal and chief executive Lawrence Wood said the event would reflect the college’s commitment to being ‘a genuinely open, welcoming and active part of the community’.

“We’re incredibly proud of the role Telford College plays in supporting education, skills, wellbeing and local growth,” he said.

“This Community Day is about celebrating that – bringing people together, showing what happens across our campus every day, and strengthening the partnerships that make our area such a vibrant place to live and work.”

Visitors will be able to explore interactive workshops, enjoy family-friendly activities for children and young people, and watch live performances showcasing student skills and projects.

They will also be able to meet staff from across the college, and enjoy a range of community stalls hosted by partner organisations and local groups. Refreshments and social spaces will also be available throughout the day.

Mr Wood added: “Whether you’re visiting our campus for the first time or are already connected to the college, there will be something for everyone. We want people to explore, discover new opportunities, and enjoy a relaxed, inclusive day out.”

Although the event is free, the college is asking visitors to register their attendance to help with planning and capacity management.

“We’d love to see families, neighbours, community groups and local residents joining us,” said Mr Wood. “Bring your friends, bring the kids, and come and discover what’s happening right on your doorstep.”
