Teenager jailed after machete robbery in Telford
A teenager has been handed a custodial sentence following a robbery involving a machete in Telford earlier this year.
The 17-year-old male appeared before Telford Magistrates’ Court on 4 March 2026 for sentencing after pleading guilty to charges of robbery and possession of a bladed article in a public place.
The court heard that on 29 January 2026, the defendant robbed a victim of his bike. During the incident, he was found to be in possession of a machete.
Magistrates sentenced the youth to a total of eight months in a detention and training order. In the sentencing remarks, it was noted that the offence was so serious that only a period of detention could be justified.
The court specifically highlighted that this was the defendant’s second knife-related offence, committed only a few days after being sentenced for a previous matter.
Due to the defendant being in the care of the local authority, no order for costs was made. He was ordered to pay a £41 surcharge by 2 December 2026.
No compensation was awarded to the victim as the bicycle was recovered.
