Telford man sentenced for retail theft and assault

A 32 year-old man from Telford has appeared before magistrates to face sentencing for a string of offences including theft from multiple retailers and assault by beating.

Oskars Ziedins, with addresses listed at Mill Bank in Wellington and Ketley Park Road in Ketley, appeared at Telford Magistrates’ Court on 5 March 2026.

The court heard that on 30 October 2025, Ziedins stole clothing to the value of £711.00 from John Lewis Ltd in Solihull. While a guilty plea was taken into account for this West Midlands offence, no separate penalty was issued as he was sentenced in totality with other matters.

Further charges related to an incident in Telford on 1 December 2023. Ziedins was found guilty of stealing groceries valued at £55.98 from Farm Foods. For this theft, he was ordered to pay a fine of £135.00 and costs of £200.00 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

On the same date in December 2023, Ziedins was involved in an assault by beating.

The court noted that no compensation was ordered for the victim because the heads of the defendant and complainant clashed and the complainant stated he had no injuries. No separate penalty was given for the assault.

Additionally, Ziedins was charged with the possession of a controlled drug of Class B, namely cannabis and cannabis resin, on 1 December 2023.

Magistrates ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, with no further separate penalty applied.
