Driver banned from the roads for three years after drug driving offences
A 31-year-old man has been stripped of his driving licence for three years after being caught driving with drugs in his system on two separate occasions in Telford.
Lawrence Connor appeared before Telford Magistrates’ Court on 4 March 2026 to be sentenced for the offences which took place over the course of less than a week in August 2025.
The court heard that on 15 August 2025, Connor was behind the wheel of a Suzuki Vitara on Furnace Lane when he was found to have not less than 3.1 ug/L of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in his blood, which exceeded the specified limit.
Just five days later, on 20 August 2025, he was stopped again while driving a red Suzuki Grand Vitara on Victoria Road in Wellington. On this second occasion, tests revealed a proportion of Benzoylecgonine—a metabolite of cocaine—totalling 200 mg in his blood.
Connor, whose address was given in court as Burnside, pleaded guilty to both charges of driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit.
Magistrates took his guilty pleas into account when passing the sentence, which included an obligatory 36-month driving disqualification.
For the first offence, Connor was ordered to pay a £120 fine, a £48 surcharge, and £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service.
No separate penalty was issued for the second drug driving offence, though a further £85 in costs was applied. The court ordered the total financial balance to be consolidated, with payments to be made in £20 monthly instalments starting in April.
