Shrewsbury man found guilty of drug driving on the A442 in Telford
A 53 year-old man from Shrewsbury has been banned from the roads after being found guilty of drug driving on a major Telford route.
David Hodgkiss, of Barker Street, appeared at Telford Magistrates’ Court on 5 March 2026 to face the single charge following a trial.
The court heard that on 24 February 2024, Hodgkiss was behind the wheel of a Volkswagen T-Roc on the A442 in Telford.
When tested, he was found to have a proportion of Benzoylecgonine, a derivative of cocaine, in his blood. The level recorded was 96 micrograms per litre of blood, which exceeded the specified legal limit.
Despite entering a plea of not guilty during a previous hearing in December 2024, Hodgkiss was convicted of the offence during his trial this week. Magistrates issued an obligatory driving disqualification, banning him from operating a motor vehicle for 12 months.
In addition to the driving ban, Hodgkiss was ordered to pay a fine of £660. He was also told to pay costs of £650 to the Crown Prosecution Service, bringing the total financial penalty to £1,310.
