Arson suspected at Telford hotel

Police have launched an investigation into a suspected arson attack at the former Madeley Court Hotel in Telford.

Officers were called to a break-in at the site around 7.50pm on Friday 13 March. Upon arrival, a fire was discovered in an area of the hotel, and Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the scene to assist.

The hotel had previously been used to accommodate migrants, but it was confirmed that there were no residents staying at the building at the time of the incident and no one was injured. The suspects had left the scene prior to the arrival of the police.

A spokesperson for the fire service confirmed they attended a building fire at Madeley Court at approximately 8pm. Six firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used hose reel jets to tackle the fire. A fire investigation has since concluded that the blaze was deliberate.

The incident is currently being treated as arson and enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible.
