Trench schoolgirl raises money for charity with handmade bracelet sale

An 11 year-old girl from Trench has turned a creative hobby into a successful fundraising campaign for charities.

Esmae Price, a pupil at Wrockwardine Wood Junior School, decided to use loom bands she no longer needed to craft handmade bracelets in her spare time. Her efforts have already seen her surpass her initial fundraising target, with the community rallying behind her initiative.

Esmae chose the beneficiaries of her hard work with great care, selecting Severn Hospice, Hilbrae Pets & Stray Kennels, and Christian Aid.

The choice of Severn Hospice was a personal one for the youngster, who wanted to support the charity after sadly losing two great-grandads to cancer. As part of a family of dog lovers who have previously rehomed pets from Hilbrae, she also wanted to ensure animals in need were looked after. Her third choice, Christian Aid, was selected to help provide basic necessities like food and clean water to those less fortunate.

To get the project off the ground, Esmae wrote a persuasive letter to her headteacher asking for permission to sell the bracelets during school break times. Following the approval of her request, the sale was advertised in the school newsletter on Friday 13th March. The bracelets, priced at £1 and £2 depending on the complexity of the design, have proven to be a hit with her peers and the wider community.

Her mother Chelsea, shared that she is “incredibly proud” of her daughter’s creativity and determination, telling Telford-Live that Esmae has already raised £180 as of 21st March 2026, beating her original £150 goal.

The fundraising will continue until Tuesday 24th March, after which the total proceeds will be handed into the school to be split equally between the three chosen charities.

Through her simple idea, the young student has demonstrated the meaningful difference that small actions can make within the Telford community.
