Lifesavers praised after man collapses at Halesfield recycling centre
A quick-thinking member of the public and staff at a Telford recycling centre have been hailed as miraculous life savers after a man suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday.
The dramatic incident took place at the Halesfield community recycling centre when a visitor suddenly collapsed. Beth Klivert, who was at the scene, immediately stepped in to perform CPR. Despite having only ever practiced the life-saving technique in training, she found herself having to resuscitate a man who had no pulse and had turned blue.
Staff at the Halesfield site acted quickly to support the efforts, fetching defibrillators while chest compressions were maintained. The collective response proved successful, and the man began breathing again just as the ambulance arrived at the scene.
Reflecting on the experience, Beth Klivert told Telford Live that she was still a bit shaken writing about the ordeal but felt it was vital to highlight the importance of first aid and CPR training.
Beth had been trained in resuscitation techniques as part of her job as a a nursery practitioner.
She said it made her realise just how important it is to know what to do in those moments, adding that you never think it will be you until it is.
The mans wife has since shared a message of profound gratitude for those who saved her husband’s life. She said she believed there had been a message on a Telford Community Support Facebook group from one of the miraculous life savers asking if anybody knew of the mans progress.
Updating the community on his condition, she said that he is settled and on a heart monitor. She added that he is very weak but her dear husband is still with them thanks to all those wonderful people. The lady stated that no medical team could have done more and that her gratitude for them all will stay with her for ever.
She concluded by saying they had proven that we do still have wonderful decent human beans on this earth and that she was humbled by their care and concern.
The incident serves as a powerful reminder of how vital immediate bystander intervention and the availability of defibrillators are in the event of a medical emergency.
